Klarna wanted to reposition its business from a functional, flexible payment provider to the World’s ultimate shopping utility that delivers a superior way to ‘shop & pay’. We identified sport in the US as means to support this journey – a platform offering reach and scale but also one that bleeds increasingly into fashion. Chicago Bulls and Angel City F.C. were confirmed as partners.
We collaborated with Bulls Creative Director, Don C, and team mascot, Benny the Bull, to give fans exclusive access to bespoke, Benny themed sneakers through a limited edition drop.
With Angel City F.C. we offered fans the chance to own a real piece of history by launching “A New Dawn”, a first-of-its kind upcycled capsule collection, including windbreaker, bucket hat and ‘fanny pack’, all made from pieces of the Angel City F.C. supporter tifo.
The campaign led to strong growth in brand awareness, consideration, and new user acquisition for the Klarna app. Fans engaging with the Chicago Bulls and Angel City F.C. partnerships showed significantly higher interest in using Klarna, driving impressive increases in sales and app downloads.
